sensory latency proposes an inversion of the cinematic paradigm of the illusion of movement, replacing it with an illusion of stillness in which an apparent stability is, in fact, continuously disturbed by micro-variations. Two adjacent screens establish a dialogue between animations constructed from images of photographic origin—displaced towards abstraction through digital manipulation—and images generated by artificial intelligence that synthesize the stylistic patterns of the former. This exchange between the photographically grounded image and its speculative double prompts a reflection on the ontological status of the contemporary image, sustained by the prolonged attention the work demands.
The exhibition device imposes a slow rhythm of observation, defined by the animation and intensified by verticality, distancing the images from the grammar of movement associated with the widescreen. From this deceleration emerges a sensory indeterminacy: the viewer perceives that transformation is taking place but rarely apprehends it at the exact moment it occurs.
