The edges of photographic negatives usually contain no useful visual information. The impetus for this work was to explore these non-image spaces, seeking to reveal them through a negative scanner. The underlying assumption was to challenge the limits of the software by introducing parameters that did not correspond to the material, thereby inducing deviations and reading errors in a deliberate attempt to subvert the results. The outcome took the form of a series of color images, unique and unrepeatable, in which technology exposed a visuality that did not exist, or was not observable, in the original object. By shifting the negative during image capture, the images also came to retain a sense of movement. This gesture introduced chromatic variations, visible in the changing visual arrangement across the presented sequence.
The choice of a transparent support for the physical reproduction of the images, besides referring back to the originating object, the negative, also frees them from the materiality of that support, as it allows the images, when illuminated, to project beyond their own boundaries.
The research expanded to other translucent materials, used either individually or in overlay, creating new sets of images that were translated into video format. This aimed to create a perceptual interplay: each image slowly dissolves into the next, undergoing constant reconfiguration, yet the similarity between successive frames makes any modification difficult to perceive. The gradual fusion of images generates new forms and colors in an almost imperceptible movement that only the passage of time allows one to discern. It is, therefore, a representation of an ongoing process.
